Kelly Coberly: The Voice of Lived Appalachian Heritage and Faith
Few artists possess a musical pedigree as deeply woven into the fabric of the American roots tradition as Kelly Coberly. Born in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and raised among the mountain landscapes of Upshur County, West Virginia, Kelly’s life has been infused with the spirit of mountain music from the very beginning." Growing up in a deeply musical family, she fell in love with traditional sounds while attending bluegrass festivals with her father, who performed in a bluegrass band. Her career technically began at the age of seven, shrink-wrapping cassette tapes at her grandparents' recording studio in Broadway, Virginia—an early immersion that sparked a lifelong devotion to the craft of making music.
A Decorated Secular Career (1999–2013)
Kelly stepped into the professional spotlight in 1999 as a country and bluegrass artist. Her songwriting instincts quickly garnered global attention, with her debut self-penned single, "Ya Wanna Bet", climbing all the way to #2 on the country music charts in Australia in 2001, followed closely by international radio successes with "What Did I Do" and "Precious Child". Her immense technical skill led her to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, where she worked as a trusted demo singer and background vocalist in the mid-2000s.
During her 15 years touring the country and bluegrass circuits, Kelly recorded five studio albums. Among them was her deeply personal tribute album, “Remember West Virginia Coal”, dedicated to her community following the tragic 2006 Sago Mine disaster. Her impact on the genre was solidified by a staggering 18 awards from the Tennessee Country Music Association (TCMA) and the North American Country Music Associations International (NACMAI), which included multiple Female Vocalist of the Year titles.
A New Chapter: Southern Gospel, Christian Country & Gospel Ministry (2014–Present)
In early 2014, Kelly’s path took a transformative turn when she transitioned her powerhouse vocals into the Southern Gospel, Christian Country and Gospel Ministry. Bringing her signature mountain phrasing, raw acoustic vulnerability, and clear vocal twang to songs of faith, she found immediate resonance with a whole new audience.
As a gospel artist, Kelly has recorded an additional four albums—bringing her lifetime discography to nine studio albums. Her gospel tenure has been defined by unprecedented chart success, including 19 consecutive radio singles, with every single one reaching the Top 5 on the gospel charts, including multiple #1 hits. Her ministry has been heavily celebrated by the industry, earning her the Female Vocalist of the Year honor at the Crimson Music Awards, alongside elite recognition as a multi-time nominee for the GMA Dove Awards, the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Awards, and the Josie Music Awards.
